The Pittsburgh Penguins will be looking to bounce back after dropping game three against the Washington Capitals on Monday.

After being down 2-0 and tying the game late in the third period, a 3-2 overtime loss in game three has cut the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-0 series lead in half.

Regardless of the loss, the Penguins played a hard-fought game on Monday. Forcing the game to overtime in the dying moments of the game with goals from Evgeni Malkin and Justin Schultz shows that you can’t let your guard down against these Pens.

The offence was there and so was the defence. Despite letting in three goals on 33 shots, Marc-Andre Fleury was solid in net and came up big many times.

Unfortunate Injuries

During game three the Penguins suffered a pair of very unfortunate injuries.

According to a press release put out by the Pittsburgh Penguins, in the first period of the game, Sidney Crosby drove to the net when Alex Ovechkin’s stick caught him in the head. The clip on Crosby’s skate also caused him to lose balance and fall, when Capitals defenceman collided with Crosby, cross-checking him in the head.

Crosby was down on the ice for some time before leaving the game and not returning again.

Well it turns out the injury was as serious as many thought. Crosby, who has had a long history dealing with concussions, has been diagnosed with yet another concussion and will not play in game four tonight, head coach Mike Sullivan said.

This is very unfortunate as Crosby was playing some of the best hockey he has played in years. All we can do is hope that he recovers soon, especially considering his battles with concussions in the past.

On top of Crosby, Conor Sheary collided with teammate Patric Hornqvist in game three and has been diagnosed with a concussion as well. Sheary skated Tuesday morning, but his play in game four will be a game time decision.
