The Pittsburgh Penguins confirmed around 11:30am EST that they have acquired a 2025 2nd round pick in exchange for Anthony Beauvillier. The suitor? The Washington Capitals.

The move comes as the first of likely many on the day of the NHL Trade Deadline - a day that has been relatively quiet on all fronts as of the noon hour.

Beau was expected to be moved, and with his expiring contract, a trade within the division was not out of the cards.

In 60 games this season, Beauvilllier scored 13 goals and notched seven assists while shifting around between different lines most of the season. Most recently he had been playing on a line with Sidney Crosby while Bryan Rust was coming back from injury.

The Capitals gain a solid winger that can provide even more scoring depth. Beauvillier profiles as a bottom six forward for Washington and is immediately thrust into one of the best situations in the NHL with the Capitals being far and away the best team in the Eastern Conference.

As for Pittsburgh, the second round pick is an excellent return for a Beauvillier's cheap, expiring deal and production.

This is a great move by Kyle Dubas, and based on the returns the NHL has seen for players of middling to low caliber, expect him to be active in the next three hours.

This looks like a fleece on behalf of the Penguins. That first round exit for Washington at the hands of Columbus is going to hit like crack.
