Braden Schneider, right handed defenseman of the New York Rangers, who has been getting calls on from many teams as the trade deadline is approaching slowly, could have Kyle Dubas very intrigued and fits his goals and aspirations of the future of the Penguins.
Schneider, 24, is a young right shot defenseman who possesses a defensive defenseman game that is still in it's early stages and checks all the boxes for Kyle Dubas. He is currently the Rangers RD1 on the depth chart and will more than likely come at a cost especially if it's another in division trade with the Rangers which has happened more often.
Schneider has played in 53 games this season and has two goals, eight assists, 10 points with a plus/minus of -15 and averages 19:31 of TOI per game and eats heavy minutes for the Rangers, with the long term injury of Adam Fox.
The 19th overall pick in 2020 would bring his 6'4 frame that will fit with Ryan Shea's game and will allow for a pairing like that to rough up players down low and in front of the net. With Jack St. Ivany sidelined after having hand surgery that will keep him out for eight weeks now opens the gap to add Schneider.
Schneider is in the last year of his two year deal with the Rangers, at a cap hit of $2,200,000 AAV and will be a Restricted Free Agent at the end of this season.
When it comes to return, it is unknown what the asking price is for Schneider, however it more than likely could take a high valued pick or picks and a possible prospect or player in return. It all comes down to Rangers GM Chris Drury and how bad he wants to kick start the retool in New York.
For the Penguins, it has been made known they will be looking to add on the back-end and possibly upfront if they can land a big fish, for example Jason Robertson.
Could Kyle Dubas land the Rangers, young and upcoming defenseman with a very bright future in the National Hockey League and can he wow the Rangers enough to trade him in division?
