In the dead time of the NHL calendar, the Pittsburgh Penguins just dropped some exciting news. The new Penguins Hall of Fame class was just announced to the public. Four legendary names will be entering the honorary ranks among other greats. Those four include Jim Rutherford, Larry Murphy, Jack McGregor, and Marc-Andre Fleury. It is a class full of historic franchise figures.
One notable name sticks out amongst the crowd and that's none other than Fleury.
The beloved goaltender just retired after suiting up for the Penguins one last time in last year's preseason matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets. It was a perfect way for the franchise icon to reunite with the Penguins organization. Fans will now look to see his headlining smile during his Hall of Fame introduction with the team who drafted him.
Beyond Fleury, this is a class full of massive figures in franchise history.
Jim Rutherfod was the general manager of the team during their back-to-back cup runs and remains one of the best decision makers in team history. Larry Murphy was a fantastic defenseman who helped the team win two cups during the 90s. Jack McGregor was a key piece in bringing NHL hockey to Pittsburgh, becoming their founder. Without McGregor there is no Penguins hockey.
Pittsburgh Penguins fans rejoice as Marc-Andre Fleury enters Penguins 2026 Hall of Fame class
Although there are many notable names in this Penguins Hall of Fame class, everyone will have Marc-Andre Fleury circled on the list. He has become a massive piece to the franchise's recent history. No matter if it was him growing up in the team's system, to winning Stanley Cups, to becoming a selfless player during his final days with the team. He has earned the respect of all Penguins fans.
Now that the goaltender is officially retired, it's tough to fathom this being the final chapter in his Pittsburgh Penguins career.
Unless they retire his number "29" at some point, which is possible, this could be the last time many in Pittsburgh see "flower" in person for the foreseeable future. This is an amazing opportunity for fans to once again cheer on Fleury as he gets inducted in the team's Hall of Fame.
Despite jumping onto the NHL scene early in his career, many forget that it took Fleury a while to catch on with the Penguins. Once he did, special things happened and he became a massive factor in the club winning the Stanley Cup in 2009. He struggled with some mid-career woes, but his team-first attitude during the 2016 and 2017 Stanley Cup victories gave fans new love for him.
After leaving Pittsburgh, it always felt like a friend who moved away, but you knew their true connection remained.
Marc-Andre Fleury has gained the right to always call Pittsburgh home. With this new Hall of Fame induction news surrounding the Penguins, it will only make people happy. The class will be inducted on November 14 prior to the game against the Ottawa Senators.
