Marcus Pettersson will make his Vancouver Canucks debut tonight against the Detroit Red Wings after being traded by the Penguins on Friday night. He was acquired one-for-one from the Anaheim Ducks for Daniel Sprong back in December 2018.
Known as "The Dragon" or "Petey" in his time with Pittsburgh, Marcus Pettersson had some great moments in the black and gold and will surely be missed. The Swede had 16 goals, 125 assists, 646 blocked shots, and dished 675 hits in seven seasons with the Penguins.
For nostalgia's sake, let's take a look back at Pettersson's best moments for the Penguins over the last several years.
Ridiculous Goal-line Stop vs Washington
Sometimes good defensemen don't have defensive highlights because they rarely get put into precarious positions to warrant an ESPN Top-10 Play. That's not the case with Petey.
Pettersson pulled off this disgusting stop to save the game against the Capitals in just his 9th game since joining the Penguins. Talk about an immediate impact!
Sand Wedge Stretch Pass Finds Zucker
While Pettersson wasn't known much for his scoring touch, he created plenty of goals for teammates. This home run stretch pass from his own red dot to find Jason Zucker is as crispy as it gets.
This was his first of two assists in the game as The Dragon would connect with Jason Zucker again in overtime to win this game against the Lightning 5-4 back at the end of the 2022-23 season.
No-Look Overtime Snipe vs Montreal

Okay, okay. I know I just said he wasn't know for his scoring touch...but he had me fooled with this no-look, shelfed, overtime snipe to beat the Montreal Canadiens last season.
Absolutely filthy.
Pettersson had his fellow Swede, Rickard Rakell, as an option to dish to. He said "to heck with that" and did it himself.
This was one of his four goals in 2023-24, his best offensive season with career highs in goals and assists (26).
The Dragon Dumps Max Domi
One of Pettersson's most honorable traits was his willingness to defend his teammates and stand up to a fight. His frame is not indicative of a fighter, but Petey's energy and care for the team was never in question.
Some of the notorious enforcers he stood up to in his Penguins tenure include Tom Wilson, Nic Deslauriers, Sam Bennett, and Darnell Nurse.
Here, Pettersson is just playing good defense when Max Domi decided to take exception. The Dragon buried him moments later. Take a seat, bozo. Don't get poke-checked next time.
