The Penguins selected three times in the 3rd Round in the 2025 NHL Draft and got a whole lot bigger both on the blue line and between the pipes.
D Charlie Trethewey 73th overall
The Penguins selected 6'1" 200lb American defenseman Charlie Trethewey in with the 73rd pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Trethewey is set to begin his collegiate career at Boston University this coming season. He profiles as a complete defenseman with a heavy shot, explosive hits, and good skating ability

This seaason with the U.S. U18 National Team, Trethewey put up 20 points (6 G, 14 A) in 63 games played.
G Gabriel D'Aigle 84th Overall

The Penguins took goaltender Gabriel D'Aigle with the 84th overall pick, which they had from Nashville.
D'Aigle actually trained with Marc-Andre Fleury as they were from the same hometown in Canada. He's a very active goaltender, which makes a lot of sense having worked with MAF. He's also huge. At 6'4" 215lbs he takes up a lot of the net and can still operate very athletically.
The relationship with Marc-Andre Fleury seems to be something that could be very valuable to his continued development. This year in the QMJHL he had a 4.52 GAA with a .883 save percentage this season with the Victoriaville Tigres.
D Brady Peddle 91st Overall

The Penguins selected another big defenseman in Brady Peddle with their third pick in the 3rd Round. Peddle is 6'3" 205lbs and is a two-way defenseman who had one goal and nine assists in 15 playoff games with the Waterloo Blackhawks in the 2024-25 playoffs.
He's a rough and tumble defenseman that lays big hits. He's committed to Michigan State University in 2026.
Peddle's father, Brad Peddle, is a team consultant with the Columbus Blue Jackets and former longtime head coach of St. Francis Xavier University.
Peddle and Trethewey add solid defensemen depth to the farm system, something the Penguins were in need of. Pittsburgh will select once in the 4th Round, three times in the 5th Round, once in the 6th Round, and once in the 7th Round as things currently stand in the 2025 NHL Draft.
