Making a trade for Jason Robertson will be nothing short of a blockbuster move for the Pittsburgh Penguins. With limited prospects considered desirable, it could make things tough for the Penguins to not dip into their current talent pool on the NHL roster. This mock trade proposal is one that brings a third team into the mix. That third organization in this instance is the Detroit Red Wings.
Detroit is in a tough spot with Dylan Larkin, but they could find a way to deal their captain only to boost their team.
The Red Wings want to find a way back into the playoffs, the Penguins want to land Jason Robertson, and the Dallas Stars only want to make a deal that benefits them. Making a trade of this magnitude would cause the hockey world to melt down, and it would need plenty of financial accommodations.

Pittsburgh would be taking a massive swing in this deal as they move out five players from their roster, potentially six if you consider Rutger McGroarty of that ilk. They send out many fan favorites like Erik Karlsson, Bryan Rust, and Rickard Rakell to land Jason Robertson. In reality, the Penguins need to send out some older guys on the roster to make way for some younger pieces.
Landing Jason Robertson is fantastic for the Penguins future, but so is Simon Edvisson, who would become their top left-handed defenseman. This also makes the current imbalance on the right side of their defense better.
Making this trade would be difficult with the press, but it gives younger pieces a shot at larger roles both on offense and defense, while also adding some quality pieces in their primes.
This makes sense for the Red Wings as they land four NHL players, and one up-and-coming player in McGroarty. Both Rust and Karlsson will be massive factors for their franchise in trying to land a playoff spot this season. Lian Bichsel is another young piece on defense who should help the ease of losing Edvinsson. The Red Wings also receive a conditional 2027 1st round pick from the Penguins.
Dallas is doing their best to compete for championships, and they should be able to keep that momentum going with this trade haul.
They receive two top six forwards in Dylan Larkin and Rickard Rakell, plus a top four defenseman in Sam Girard. Making the cap space work with the Stars would be a challenge, but doable. Dallas also gets a second and third rounder from Pittsburgh in 2028.
