Philip Tomasino is the young player that the Penguins have been needing

The Penguins have needed young players that can skate and know how to score and Tomasino has been a perfect acquisition so far.

For years now after not winning a playoff series since 2018, it has been very evident that the Penguins have needed a young fast player that can play on the offensive side of the puck. So, the Penguins decided to take a chance on Nashville Predators forward Philip Tomasino. Tomasino had been healthy scratched a lot in Nashville and if he did play, he was stashed on the fourth line with players who did not fit his style of game.

In comes the Penguins to the rescue, as when Tomasino was acquired, he was put right next to Evgeni Malkin, and in three games, Tomasino has looked excellent next to the talented center from Russia. He has scored two goals in back-to-back games, and both were big goals.

The Penguins need to keep acquiring players like Tomasino

As mentioned before, it has been evident that the Penguins need young guys who can skate and score or play on the offensive side of the puck. So far general manager Kyle Dubas receives an A+ for his acquisition of Tomasino, but he can not stop there.

There have been rumors from major NHL reporters that the Penguins are interested in young reclamation project forward Nils Hoglander from the Vancouver Canucks. And this is another perfect player for the Penguins to acquire.

Hoglander is struggling in Vancouver and could use a new home as the Penguins are a great team for Hoglander to come to as he will get every opportunity to be a good player again and score some goals.

If Dubas keeps acquiring young fast players that can get going again, the retool will be quick

It is pretty evident that the Penguins do not have a great roster to compete for the Stanley Cup right now, but continuing to acquire young players like Tomasino and Hoglander, will speed up the Penguins rebuild or retool for those fans that call it that.

They are doing an excellent job right now, with the Tomasino acquisition, if they are able to get Hoglander from the Canucks, and as insider Elliotte Friedman suggests, getting Kirby Dach from the Montreal Canadiens.

The Penguins retool is in very good hands with Dubas at the helm and Penguins fans should be excited for the next few years if this style of wheeling and dealing continues.
